Journalists Pass Vote Of Confidence on Info Commissioner

A group of journalists, under the aegis of Team Integrity 2015, has passed a Vote of Confidence on Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah.
The Vote of Confidence was passed on the Commissioner when the group visited him in his office for consultation on the chairmanship aspiration of Comrade Inimfon Silas, in the Federated Chapel of the Akwa Ibom State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the publisher of The Event Newspaper, Mr. Ime Ime Jerome, extolled the information management capabilities of Mr. Umanah, describing him as a strong factor in the transformation of Akwa Ibom State. He recalled the Commissioner’s positive contributions to the immediate past administration of Governor Godswill Akpabio, adding that his appointment by Governor Udom Emmanuel was deserved.
In his response, the Commissioner, who thanked the team for the visit and commendation of his noble contributions to the development of the State, admonished the chairmanship hopeful to consult widely among his colleagues in the Chapel. He explained that his support would only count if the majority of members in the Federated Chapel accepted the aspiration of Comrade Silas. Mr. Umanah, however, in the hope that the aspiration of Comrade Silas sails through, advised him to “be accommodative and ready to face criticisms and be called names from all quarters.”
Advising journalists to always uphold the ethics of their profession, the Commissioner expressed the hope that the success of the aspirant would help sanitize the chapel and chart a new course for the journalism profession in the state. He called on journalists in the State to support the five-point agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel, which is aimed at empowering the citizens, especially through his visionary industrialization progreamme.
The Chairmanship hopeful, Comrade Inimfon Silas, while speaking, thanked the Commissioner for his approachable disposition, said being the number one journalist in the state, he thought it wise to inform him of his intention to vie for the number one seat of the Federated Chapel.
