NUJ Boss Commends Education Affairs Publisher for Embarking on CSR


… As Former Education Commissioner receives a Distinguished Service Award

The State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Elder Patrick Albert has given kudos to a specialized media organization, Education Affairs for creating enabling environment for education sector to thrive in the state.

The NUJ Chairman who made this commendation penultimate weekend at the Onyeama Ugochuchu Auditorium, University of Uyo Town Campus during the 2018 Annual Dinner and Distinguished Service Award organized in honour of outstanding Schools/Educational Institutions and their Administrators in public and private sectors; past and serving Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries in charge of education as well as other qualified persons and institutions that have impacted positively on education sector of the economy. The chairman who particularly thanked the Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of Education Affairs Newspaper for his ingenuity, foresight in creating a platform to intervene on the plight of schools in the state, “I must commend the Publisher of Education Affairs Newspaper, Mr. Dominic NsikakAbasi for aligning schools administrators with key players on building and those that provide building materials to especially our private schools to access facilities available to enhance structures in their respective schools. This indeed, is a laudable development. We know UNICEM as one of the leading cement industries in Nigeria and to partner with them to provide cement to our schools to pay at ease is a welcome development”. The chairman who also acknowledged the effort of PGS Estate and Valuer in building classroom blocks at a minimal cost, he described it as the beginning of good things to happen in education sector of the economy.

The NUJ Boss who was the chairman on the occasion and was represented by the State Auditor of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Pastor Saviour Ekpe called on the award recipients to see the award as a call to higher and more reward oriented service in their respective places of endeavor, knowing that the media is beaming her search light everywhere including educational institutions. The Chairman himself, an award recipient thanked the management of Education Affairs for appreciating hardwork and called for all and sundry, especially those who occupy public offices to do so with diligence and the fear of God.

In his opening remarks, the Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of Education Affairs Newspaper, Mr. Dominic NsikakAbasi who gave the evolution of the newspaper acknowledged the contributions of the education stakeholders in the state, thanked them for their patronage and consistency in supporting the organization. Mr. NsikakAbasi explained that Education Affairs Newspaper is an outshoot of Education Affairs Services that offers other services to complement what the government is doing in the state. He announced that his company has concluded plans with one of the major cement manufacturing companies in the country, UNICEM to provide cement to schools who are facing financial challenges and could not complete their classroom building. He further explained that UNICEM will supply cement to schools in need while the money would be paid under one year interval and that, in company prizes.

Aside that, he also announced and presented to the gathering, the CEO of PGS Real Estate who is ready to build school structure and minimal cost to owners. He noted that his intention is to ensure that schools and other educational institutions in the state meet international standard and compete favourably with any school around the world.

Speaking at the event soon after receiving the 2018 Distinguished Service Award, the former Commissioner for Education, Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Atim Antai said that the award came as a great surprise after giving her best in the state in the education ministry. Prof. Atim Antai who was represented by her daughter, Mrs. Stella Edemema Ukombe Called on education administrators in the country to give their best to further improve upon the solid foundation that has been built over the years. She thanked Education Affairs Newspaper for appreciating hard work and called on others who are yet to give their best to rise up and contribute to the growth of the sector.

In his response on behalf of the award recipients, the Director of School Services in the Akwa Ibom State Secondary Education Board (SSEB), Mr. Itohowo Umoh thanked the organisers for finding them fit for the award he described as free of charge. Mr. Umoh noted that the award will spur them up to render more effective service to humanity. He maintained that they neither lobbied nor pay a ‘dime’ for the award, “I receive a letter that I have been nominated for an award and I came, I am proud of Education Affairs, I am proud of this honour done us, what I can say is, keep it up”.

Those who received the Education Affairs Newspaper 2018 Distinguished Service Award among others include the Proprietress of the popular MfonAbasi Nursery and Primary school, Tabernacle road in Uyo and 14 other award recipients.
