Providing accessible and efficient healthcare services at the grassroots has always been a cardinal objective of the Service Alone administration of Dr. Uwemedimo Udo in Uyo Local Government Area.
This is why, today, Monday, 1st November 2021, the Executive Chairman, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, represented by the Vice Chairman of Council, Pst. Sylvia Ekong officially flagged off a free medical and surgical outreach for indigenes and residents of Uyo LGA at Redemption Academy, Obio Etoi, Uyo.
The one-week week free medical exercise is organised by Africa Vision Tract House Society – The Missionary Arm of the Nigeria Christian Graduate Fellowship in collaboration with Uyo Local Government Council.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman commended the organisers of the Obio Etoi Medical Mission for the initiative, noting that the mission will have a positive impact on the people of Uyo LGA and Akwa Ibom State at large. “In times like this, when many households cannot feed let alone afford the medical cost on various health challenges, this mission is a great intervention that will save many lives and wipe many tears.
This well thought out initiative will go a long way to contribute meaningfully to ease off some of the pressure from the government. This is because a number of cases to be handled by this intervention are those that have been on the queue for medical grants from the government.”
The Council Chairman also expressed the readiness of Uyo Local Government at all times to collaborate with NGOs and other Donor Agencies on people-oriented programs which will ultimately benefit the masses.
The flagging off ceremony was chaired by the former Registrar, Akwa Ibom State University, Dr. John Udo, who urged the beneficiaries to add faith to their treatment which will guarantee their healing.
In his speech, an illustrious son of Obio Etoi who is an Honourable Justice in the Court of Appeal, Justice Ita Mbaba appreciated members of Obio Etoi community and other indigenes and residents of Uyo Local Government Area for accepting to be beneficiaries of the medical outreach, charging them to trust in the healing powers of Jesus and they shall be made whole.
The consultancy services for the exercise will hold at Redemption Academy, Obio Etoi, Uyo while all cases that need surgical attention will be done at the Primary Healthcare Center, Ikot Ayan Ikono, Uyo.
Through this outreach, the local government council and its partner will carry out a free consultation, free surgery, optometry, and opthalmological services, educational and health talks, and dispense drugs to patients.
The event was graced by Councillors led by the Leader of the Uyo Local Government Legislative Council, Hon. Ubong Effiong, the Secretary of Council, Mr. Ubong Udofia, Supervisors/Special Advisers led by the Dean, Mr. Linus Effiong, Directors from the Local Government, Obio Etoi Council of Chiefs led by the Village Head, Obong Victor Edet Udo, men and women who turned out en masse for the medical mission.
