…As Paramount Ruler Calls For Diligence and Accountability
The Paramount Ruler of Itu Local Government Area; His Royal Majesty, Edidem Edet Akpan Inyang has advised members of the village Councils to be diligent, upright and transparent in the discharge of their duties, this he said would help strengthen the bond of unity and encourage peaceful coexistence and ultimately lead to a better society. He made call during the swearing-in ceremony for Chairmen and members of village Councils accross the Local Government, held at the Main Council Hall, of Itu Local Government Secretariat, Mbak Atai.
While addressing the newly inaugurated persons, the traditional ruler called on them to use the rare opportunity given them to impact positively on the lives of their people. He also urged them to be humble, accommodating and fair to all, adding that they have the opportunity to write their names in gold, within the 2 year tenure of that office, even as he wished them well. Edidem Akpan Inyang expressed confidence that the Itu Traditional Rulers Council remain committed to building a better society for all and pledged to remain fair and just to everyone, even as he charged all to desist from acts capable of bringing disunity and conflict.
Speaking on behalf of the inaugurated official, the Chairman, Nnung Ukot Itam Village council, Chief Effiong Oku Mkpong expressed gratitude to the Traditional Rulers Council, for the opportunity given them and promised to join hands with relevant arms or governance to enhance growth and stability in the communities.
Also speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Etetim Onuk, who was represented by the Council’s Secretary, Prince Samuel Essien, congratulated members of the newly inaugurated village Councils and charged them to continually strive to make the society a better place, by upholding the rule of law, at all times and doing only those things that would attract positive dividends. He admonished them to partner with Government and its agencies at all levels to ensure sustainable peace and development in their respective community.
