…Holds End of Year Thanksgiving Service
The Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade (Elder) Sunny James led all affiliate unions of NLC in the state to God, in thanksgiving to end the service year in a grand style.
The event which was held at the Workers’ Solidarity Centre, Atan Offot, Uyo had the Senior Pastor of Dunnamis International Church in Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Usman Sampson as a guest minister and was assisted by the duo of Pastors Kinto Bassey and Inemesit Eduok.
The annual event featured high praise/worship, intercessory prayers, special thanksgiving by the leadership of NLC and union leaders, rededication of the labour movement back to God, breaking of the word, while the high point of the event, was the blessing of the project site and commencement of work at Governor Udom Emmanuel ICT Centre/Cafeteria, by Pastor Usman Sampson.
Those who witnessed the event were the head of the Civil Service of Akwa Ibom State, Elder Effiong Essien, represented by the head of administration in his office, Mr. Solomon Akpan, the Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, Pastor Sunny Ibuot, represented by the permanent secretary in the Ministry, Mr Mark Umoh among other guests.
The end of year thanksgiving service also afforded labour leaders, who represented the working-class people of the state the opportunity to relax and unwind a bit, in the spirit of the yuletide. Goodwill messages were presented by the head of the Civil Service and the Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, through their representatives.
Comrade Sunny James, in his testimony, said God has been so faithful to the workers and the labour leaders, in spite of the COVID-19 Pandemic, which came in different waves and variants, the mercy of God was sufficient for them.
He prayed for continued support and cooperation of the workforce in the state, for them to succeed, in raising the bar in labour leadership, despite some teething problems and hitches here and there. Maintaining that those trying moments were challenges that were surmountable and urged them to brace up for the challenges ahead in the coming years.
