… Academic staff members are of sound moral standard – Lecturers
By Saviour Ekpe
The management and academic staffers of the Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit said that the essence of establishing the Institution has been achieved given the goal establishing it.
In a press release statement issued by the Management of the Institution led by Dr. Daniel Udo, an astute administrator of repute signed by Registrar, Mr. Idorenyin Uko and made available to Century Newsfront indicates that management is committed to exploring all available means to ensure the overall safety of students and staffers as well as maintaining its best academic standard, the Institution is known for over the years.
The release explained that Management has severally interfaced with stakeholders with a view to finding a lasting solution to a perceived lingering problem, “that the management has held several meetings with stakeholders including Staff, Students and the various Unions on issues related to the standard of education, staff welfare, students’ welfare, untoward behaviour and cultism have been on the front burner”.
In the area of student dissatisfaction regarding the outcome of examination results, management noted that external arrangements has been made to arrest the situation, “in order to protect the rights of our Students, management is currently exploring options of engaging external examiners from other Institutions to re-mark scripts of ANY student who felt has been victimized”.
In a similar reaction, lecturers under the aegis of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Afaha Nsit Chapter in a rejoinder christened, “Akwa Ibom State College of Education In Ruins: A Rejoinder” jointly signed by its Chairman, Comrade Ene Archibong and Secretary, Comrade Dr. Godwin Akpan and made available to Century Newsfront said while the state government has lived up to expectation, the management administered the Institution with integrity and utmost sense of leadership, “integrity of the Management of the College of Education has never been in doubt as the union has not found any reason yet to pass a vote of no confidence on the Management”.
The statement disassociates members from any reckless assertion, advised media reports that carry false and misleading information to retract it and apology tendered while calling on members of the public to discountenance any malicious publication, “the Union dissociates her members from such damaging publication and refutes every portion of the content of the outpouring of demented minds of the publishers. While asking the publishers to publish a refutal and an open apology to members, we regret the expression of unprofessionalism exhibited by the publisher for not cross-checking their information before running to press as they have not shown in the write up any attempt to contact management, unions or even the lecturers purportedly mentioned in the odious publication. We call on the entire public to discountenance the said publication and continue to appreciate the products of this college majority of whom have turned out worthy ambassadors of the institution and the state at large”.
It could be recalled that spurious allegations were made and syndicated in some state-based tabloid against the Management and academic staffers of the Institution recently.
