Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has vowed to ensure that Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Akwapoly, becomes Nigeria’s best Polytechnic within the shortest possible time. The Governor stated this when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Polytechnic on Monday.

Represented by the Commissioner for Education, Hon Idongesit Etiebet, the Governor commended the Rector, Dr Moses Umobong and his Management team for the teamwork and dedication to duty which has resulted in the present feat of the Institution moving from the 90th to 18th position in the recent Nigerian Polytechnic Ranking, reiterating the determination of the state government to continue to support the Polytechnic in it’s bid to become Nigeria’s foremost technological and entrepreneurial center of excellence in the country.

The Commissioner who was accompanied by her Permanent Secretary and other senior staff of the Ministry also commended the Management staff, Lecturers and other critical stakeholders of the Polytechnic Community for their unwavering support to the Rector which has resulted in the many success stories that has made the Polytechnic and state proud and has placed both the Institution and Akwa Ibom State positively on the national and global map, assuring that the Ministry of Education under her watch will do everything possible to give maximum support that will help create the much needed conducive academic environment needed for excellence, innovation and entrepreneurial development to thrive.

Speaking earlier, the Rector, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Dr Moses Umobong, who received the Commissioner and her entourage, thanked the Commissioner for the visit, stating that such periodic interface was necessary to enable the Ministry to understand the challenges faced by the Institution and to rub minds on issues of mutual interest for the betterment of the Polytechnic in particular and the educational sector in general.

Dr Umobong thanked the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel for ensuring prompt payment of salaries and allowances to the staff of the Polytechnic and adequate funding of the Institution which has resulted in greater efficiency, excellence and productivity as reflected in the many national and international laurels won by students of the Polytechnic, and assured the Commissioner of the determination of the Polytechnic to continue to remain a center of excellence and a reference point in entrepreneurial training and development in the country.

The Commissioner and her delegation were taken round the Polytechnic to have a first-hand and on-the-spot assessment of major projects in the Institution. Some of the places visited include the Polytechnic’s Entrepreneurship center, the ASUP Club House, the Polytechnic’s Multipurpose Shopping Mall, the TEDFUND sponsored Library, amongst others.
