Prof Jerry Gana Tasks Nigerian Leaders on Integrity

-As ICLM Inducts new Members in Abuja

A former Minister of Information in the country, Prof. Jerry Gana has listed lack of Transparency and Integrity as the possible causes of the failure in leadership and corporate governance which has led to corruption, mismanagement of public funds/resources as well as poor education systems, economy, infrastructure and death of national interest.

Prof. Jerry Gana was speaking in his capacity as the Keynote Speaker during the 2019 Leadership Refresher Programme/Induction of Institute of Corporate Leadership and Mentorship on the theme: Sharpening Your Leadership skills for Maximum Performance” over the weekend in Abuja. 

The former MANSER Boss, while regretting the fact that though Nigeria is blessed with so many leaders, over the years, they have been unable to cause the much-needed leadership change in different sectors of the economy and used the occasion to tasks leaders in all sectors of the Nigerian economy to channel their energy towards enthroning global best practices in leadership through transparency and integrity. He congratulated the management of the Institute for deeming it necessary to float an organization aimed at fostering sound leadership ideals, expressing optimism that with the institute’s concerted effort, there is hope for Nigeria. 

Earlier, while declaring the event open, the National President of the Institute, Pastor Emmanuel Eduongo said the continuous quest for the right leadership in Nigeria and succession plan anchored on intentional mentorship among others are the founding ideologies of the Institute.

The National President  said the Institute which was inaugurated in November 30, 2017 is a multi-disciplinary capacity building platform for leadership/management, entrepreneurship, media/PR/ICT, Finance/Accounting and mentorship development, incorporated as Limited by Guarantee by Corporate Affairs Commission and approved by the Federal Ministry of Education with the consent of the Attorney General of the Federation.

Furthering, the National President noted that the Institute is an authoritative professional body for leaders cutting across all strata of the society and corporate organizations: Chief Executive Officers, Senior Executives, Managers, Public Servants, Religious Leaders, Traditional Rulers, Counselors, Mentors as well as budding executives within the private/public sectors/NGOs whose mandates are to enthrone the needed leadership paradigm. 

He disclosed that so far, the Institute has registered its presence in three cities of Uyo, Calabar and Abuja with almost two hundred in its membership roll, cutting across the various categories of membership, hinting that in its committed effort to training and positioning right leaderships across the Six geopolitical zones of the country and beyond, by next year, many other important cities in the country, including Lagos shall be explored.

In his lecture, the Guest Speaker and Director, Training of the Institute, Elder Etim Efiok Udofia, a former Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service charged participants to always cultivate the habit of refreshing their leadership skills to be able to function effectively in their duty.

Nigerian Professionals drawn from different industries who were inducted into different membership categories of the Institute during the Abuja Leadership Refresher Programme as Honorary Fellows were Prof. Jerry Gana, Elder Eddy Edet, Apostle James Okon while Mrs. Ruth Ekaette Okon, Mrs. Offiong Emmanuel Elom were inducted as Fellows. Also inducted into the Membership category are Mr. Peter Saturday Peter, Mrs. Uduak-Abasi B. Udo and Mr. Philip Ekpe among others.
