Journalism Profession: Pathway to Success – Saviour Ekpe

The Managing Director Oralmedia Communications, Mr. Saviour Ekpe has described journalism profession as a pathway to successful living if professionals follow the laid down rules.

Mr. Saviour Ekpe stated this on an interactive session during orientation workshop organized by the Oralmedia Communications with the theme, “Journalism Profession for Social Mobilization” for the young graduates of mass communication recently in Uyo. The media expert advised participants to be fully abreast on the nifty gritty in journalism of the 21st century by facing the reality of information dissemination as a veritable tool for building a better society.

He admonished them to take the profession serious and be guided by the ethics of the profession in news writing and management of information as enunciated in the Nigeria code of media practice, “you must ensure strict adherence to the ethics of journalism so that you will be successful, because the profession is very dynamic and you must update yourself with the current happening the world over as well as be well armed with reliable and factual information.

The media expert stressed that there are lot of opportunities in the profession that requires urgent attention for all graduates to grab, “It is not right for mass communication graduate to lament over lack of jobs when you as a journalist can provide job for yourself and be independent by way of taking the bull by the horn because opportunities abound for mass communication graduate”. He further charged journalists to maintain absolute sanity on their sourjourn in journalism career that the world has become a global village today thorough work of science through the use of information technology.

In their reactions, participants raised questions on how to cope with the challenges associated with the profession and also expressed delight for organising the workshop, stating that its one of a kind that has ever happened to them since they were inducted into the profession and promised to effect what they have learnt by way of practice. Among the dignities who attend the workshop were other media executives.
